If I want to vest in the O& G now, I will only look at the low to mid cost producers. |

Nobody is absolutely right or wrong, just sharing only, Renewable energy is not able to power rotating machinery directly especially transportations like car, aeroplane and   vessels. Besides hydropower which is proven to be more sustainable but subjected to weather as well. The rest of the renewable energy like solar, wind farm and etc are requried high maintenance cost and unstable power supply and heavily subsidied by gov. They always come to play when energy price is high but frozen when energy price is low, especially low oil price envi now will cause renewable energy slow down a lot.  Renewable energy are not more focus on replacing the usage of coal for power generation in order to cut the emission. It is still a very long journey to replace oil and gas. Bear in mind the oil industry is really just only the power generation, in fact, oil power generation is stagnant or reducing, majority of oil still go for transportation and petrochemical like fiber for clothes and etc, comestic, detergents and etc. So, oil is monopoly and no-replaceable at all. Just for renewable energy to take over coal share for power generation, already can take few decade, not talking about oil which is required to take over the power generation completely from gas generation and over it to have extra electricity to power the electric car or battery. Which one cheaper, which one economical, people will move to that one.

I' ve taken the position that eventually, all will surrender to one another - opec, russia, shalers, other producers n agree to sit down together to stop the madness.  Oil at 30 USD is killing all producers.  At present is all loon, pain dare not say.

This bloodletting (low oil prices) is political in nature. Look at what it had done to the balance sheet of oil producing countries. All are running a budget deficit. Just look at Saudi Arabia. See their shortfall in budget this year. You will wonder why they want to keep oil at such a low price when they are running a budget deficit.
I wonder how long they can stomach this scenario before they implode |

Don' t know who is the one suggesting Sembcorp to take over Sembmarine but if they don' t do it at a steep discount I will have to reconsider my holding in Sembcorp Inds.

Hope I' m  not wrong  in also saying that  when people forget how to invest in EnP in the current situation, it is gonna be very detrimental for the future, n that wld set off an explosion in pent-up demand for rigs, other like equipment n vessels, n open up huge contracts for service providers such as EMAS (ie if they are not yet drowned by the current bloodletting).

To add, the cost of producing shale oil is more than extracting oil from the deep sea through the use of rigs
Extracting shale oil is also environment damaging to ground water sources.

I want to laugh when I read your post. You need to brush up your knowledge if you want to post credibly. Power generation traditionally is through the use of a prime mover to rotate a huge generator. This method is the only method to generate sufficient energy for our needs.
The prime mover can be achieved through burning fossil (oil, natural gas), coal or through nuclear reactions to generate super charged steam from water. The prime mover can also be achieved through 'hydro power" by damming a river etc. Many countries are moving away from nuclear power due to the accident in Japan is few years back. Countries will only adopt nuclear power if the safety of nuclear plants can be assured. Not every country can have hydro power due to a lack of water source. Coal power is too dirty for the atmosphere. That leave oil / natural gas as the source of power to generate electricity. In fact Singapore is using natural gas to generate power >>> burning natural gas to heat water to super charged steam to turn a turbine which in turn will turn the huge generator. This is the only form of energy generation that is safe and clean to generate enough energy currently. All other forms of energy generations (wind, solar, thermal etc) do not generate enough energy to meet current needs. Until the day energy can be generated safely and abundantly, fossil fuel is still the preferred method.

Of course if oil hit back 60 dollar, definitely oil rig drilling will be good. Not saying that you are wrong , in fact just my 2 cent in a energy sector.
Just noting in mind that the reliance of energy from fossil fuel is getting lesser although the world consume more energy than a decade ago. However, the world is shifting it reliance on fossil fuel to renewable energy like , wind , solar , water and last but not least nuclear energy. Power grids like this can move electricity from hundreds of KM of land distance away to power up the city or simply to charge a car else why the hack are they moving into that direction. Everything is moving to electric generation of power and better utilization of battery storage with better energy efficiency .. Cars etc. Of course at the end of the day , oil is still a necessity but just that demand and supply now does not indicate the direction that it should head to. Even if shaling is only a mere half decade or less in drilling . It is easily set up and achieve to supply the require demand. I just looking from the side line of the future smart grid in power generation and utilization.

Oil will be back to 60. In long term, offshore oil which has larger reservoir which can operate 10-20 years each is still better than shale oil which can only operate 2-5 years each. So long as oil more than 60, people will start driling, in fact, shell don't care, continue to get permit from us coast guard to drill new oil field at gulf lf mexico.

Oilrig have lifespan . Especially in harsh drilling area even shorter. Oil <$60 not profitable at all.
If TH to take over , they are really good in predicting 6 year ahead

Offshore oil is still required for next 20 years.
Seadrill is having the youngest and latest offshore drilling fleets. Take over seadrill plus those abandoned orders from keppel and sembmar is one of the consolidation. Seadrill market cap just merely 1.5bil, of course temasek has to bear a lot seadrill debt, but in long term prospective, this will be a very good chance to take over.
