Since there were opoosing parties (one party claimed last friday that this week this counter will climb/surge in price while the other party claimed will decline further in price) who were so confident & so certain with their respective stand, why not their REPRESENTATIVEs be brave & appear now & keep his/her presence here till market closes @ 5.04pm today?   For the party that claimed last week that this week, there iwill be a price recovery, their MOST QUALIFIED REPRESENTATIVE is none other than BULLSHITJesmar!   | ||||

A lot of great info coming in! I think it' s good to have different viewpoints.

I want to address one in particular right now, especially after our dear HC' s Facebook post. The misconception I want to question is: RT-PCR is superior in sensitivity / accuracy to serology tests such as Biolidics' , therefore there is no or very limited market for serology tests.

As a side note, I think HC' s post was quite clear in her explanation and concerns. But, she was looking at it from Singapore' s perspective, where we conduct maybe 3,000-5,000 tests a day. At those low volumes (and considering how small we are), a 100% PCR approach may be viable. We can and should demand for 100% accuracy for each test. It' s a different story when you have to test 100 million a week. Furthermore, a PCR test and a serology tests serve different functions.

Back to the main point. Yes, PCR testing is more sensitive and accurate in diagnosing Covid than serology tests. No one is arguing about that. You look at Biolidics' marketing materials, they are not trying to hide that.

One of the world' s leaders in PCR testing is Abbott. In fact, Trump even launched their ID Now, which is a point-of-care PCR test (I' m not going to touch on the reported problems with regards to IDnow' s accuracy and availability for now there are quite a few issues, but not sure how serious.). So, if (a) PCR is more accurate than serology tests and (b) it can be available outside a central lab, directly at poc and (c) is at a comparable price, then these should be sounding Biolidics' death knell, right?

So why is Abbott trying to ramp up production of their own serology tests from 1 million tests to 20 million tests in June?

If it' s a binary decision - you use either PCR or serology test - then why is one of the world' s leader trying to increase production of a useless product by 2000%? Especially when they reportedly own the best diagnostic tools available now? This is a huge infrastructure investment.
I' ll assume that Abbott has done their market research and won' t blindly spend hundreds of million to manufacture millions of useless products. HC is trying to frame it as a choice between speed vs sensitivity.  It is not. Different markets, different use cases.
My humble conclusion: There is a very big market for serological covid tests.

Note also that Abbott' s serology test is done in the laboratory i.e. it' s not point-of-care. That' s not relevant for now because the point here is that there is a big market for both PCR and serology testing. Biolidics has the advantage of speed and ease of use, but must prove that there is not a sizable trade-off in terms of accuracy.

Of course, the following argument would be, once Abbott floods the market with their 20 million serology tests / month, then Biolidics will die. I don' t think this will be true because US needs 500 million tests / month (assorted tests, not only serology tests). Even if Abbott can manufacture 100 million tests/mth, it still won' t be enough. And that' s a huge IF.

In any case, I don' t think anyone is saying that Biolidics will beat Abbott, Roche et al and be a market leader in the industry just because they have this test. But Biolidics will make a very tidy sum provided that they play their cards right.

Just sharing my 2 cents rationale from the available info so far to stimulate discussion. You might interpret it differently. I do believe that the nuances are important.

Thanks for the attachment, well presented, easy to read and objective. Looks like Aytu has surged 14.7% bec of its distributorship with Bio. Now maybe time for Bio to u-turn from its recent roller coast fall from 88.5 to 39, settling at 45 last fri, after the series of hoohahs of CirB, Queries, Halts, more Queries, Replies, etc etc. Will likely remain BBs and punters fav for quite some time, as demands outstrip supplies of test kits, sort of all over the globe. But defnitely not for investment, imo lah becos of its volatile swings by BBs. Looks like Bio has its test kits approved for sale in quite a few populated desperate in need countries, so now the next step is for it to sell its products there. Let' s watch what the mkt says tdy and this week. ![]()

https://www.emirates.com/media-centre/emirates-becomes-first-airline-to-conduct-on-site-rapid-covid-19-tests-for-passengers/
Emirates becomes first airline to conduct on-site rapid COVIDDubai, UAE, 15 April 2020  &ndash Emirates in coordination with Dubai Health Authority (DHA) will be introducing additional precautions. Passengers on today&rsquo s flight to Tunisia were all tested for COVID-19 before departing from Dubai. Emirates is the first airline to conduct on-site rapid COVID-19 tests for passengers. The quick blood test was conducted by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and results were available within 10 minutes. This test was conveniently done at the Group Check-in area of Dubai International Airport Terminal 3. Adel Al Redha, Emirates Chief Operating Officer said: &ldquo The testing process has gone smoothly and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the Dubai Health Authority for their initiatives and innovative solutions. This would have not been possible without the support of Dubai Airport and other government authorities. We are working on plans to scale up testing capabilities in the future and extend it to other flights, this will enable us to conduct on-site tests and provide immediate confirmation for Emirates passengers travelling to countries that require COVID-19 test certificates. The health and safety of staff and passengers at the airport remain of paramount importance.&rdquo HE Humaid Al Qutami, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), said: &ldquo We are glad to work with Emirates on the successful implementation of rapid COVID-19 testing at the airport for departing travellers. To tackle COVID-19, we have been proactively working with various governmental organisations and the private health sector and we have implemented all necessary measures from public health protection to provision of high-quality health services in line with the latest international guidelines. We believe strongly that the most effective solutions require close partnerships with other public and private sector organisations.&rdquo The airline&rsquo s check-in and boarding formalities have also been adapted with social distancing in mind. Protective barriers have been installed at each check-in desk to provide additional safety measures to our passengers and employees during any interaction. Gloves, masks and hand sanitisers have been made mandatory for all employees at the airport. Passengers are also required to wear their own masks when at the airport and on board the aircraft, and follow social distancing guidelines.Emirates has modified its inflight services for health and safety reasons. Magazines and other print reading material will not be available, and while food and beverages will continue to be offered on board, packaging and presentation will be modified to reduce contact during meal service and minimize risk of interaction. Cabin baggage are currently not accepted on flights. Carry-on items allowed in the cabin are limited to laptop, handbag, briefcase or baby items. All other items have to be checked in, and Emirates will add the cabin baggage allowance to customers&rsquo check-in baggage allowance. All Emirates aircraft will go through enhanced cleaning and disinfection processes in Dubai, after each journey. |
